At the Africa Internet Summit 2026 in Nairobi during AfNOG Day, I delivered a keynote on “Network Operations for Modern Internet Infrastructure.”
My presentation approached the modern ISP from a practical perspective, rather than a theoretical one. A network today is no longer just a chain of links, but a living operating system made up of access networks, POPs, routing, power, peering, content, cloud, monitoring, security, documentation, field teams, and customer experience.
Drawing from MegaMore Wireless Broadband Ltd’s practical experience operating hybrid fiber and wireless infrastructure in Nigeria, I focused on the discipline required to build and sustain resilient networks in real African operating conditions: unstable power, middle-mile constraints, spectrum pressure, fiber cuts, cyber risk, customer demand, IPv6 readiness, and the need for local interconnection.
Modern Internet infrastructure is not built by cables and radios alone, but by operators who can design, measure, secure, document, localize, and recover the network under pressure.
AIS’26 was a valuable reminder that Africa’s Internet future will not be shaped only by policy statements or technology trends. It will be shaped by the operators, engineers, institutions, and communities willing to do the hard operational work.
Thank you to hashtag#AfNOG, AFRINIC-The Regional Internet Registry for Africa, and the AIS’26 organizers for the platform and for hosting such an important gathering in Nairobi.
Asante sana, Hakuna Matata, Kenya.
